Proceeds help nonprofit fund new smartphones for veterans.

SAN DIEGO – November 11, 2025 – Kyocera annou nced today that it has completed a company-wide mobile device recycling program with Cell Phones for Soldiers (CPFS) that donated 721 used mobile devices, with proceeds going toward new smartphones for veterans. CPFS is a nonprofit that has dedicated 20 years to helping consumers recycle and reuse electronic devices to provide cost-free communication services and emergency funding to active-duty military members, veterans and their families. Kyocera Mobile has been supporting CPFS for more than 10 years.

Kyocera companies nationwide conducted the recycling program throughout the summer and early fall, collecting 284 pounds of recycled phones — representing a greenhouse gas reduction equivalent to 351 kg of carbon dioxide (CO2e). Donated phones were received from Kyocera employees in San Diego, CA; Hendersonville, NC; Vancouver, WA; and Chicago, IL. Funds generated from the recycling efforts went toward purchasing 46 smartphones for veterans to stay connected.

“We are deeply grateful for Kyocera’s continued partnership and commitment to both responsible recycling and supporting our nation’s veterans,” said Rob Bergquist, CPFS founder and executive director. “Their dedication over the past decade has enabled us to provide crucial communication services and emergency aid to those who have served. Tens of millions of metric tons of mobile phones and devices are sent to landfills worldwide each year, many of which can be refurbished and put to good use. Cell Phones for Soldiers was founded in 2004 to provide cost-free communication services to servicemen and women, veterans and their families. The nonprofit has provided more than 400 million minutes of talk time to service members deployed around the world, recycling more than 25 million cell phones and reducing e-waste impact on landfills across the country.

With the Android 15 update, Google introduced a change to how the Power Key behaves on Kyocera DuraForce PRO 3 (E7200) smartphone devices. Previously, pressing and holding the Power Key would bring up the power menu with options to Power Off , Restart , or access Emergency functions.

Now, by default, a long press activates the digital assistant , such as Google Assistant or Google Gemini , which may confuse users who want to shut down or restart their device.

The school safety solution combines ultra-rugged mobile technology (Android smartphones and tablets) from Kyocera ; Omni-Response 360° sensory technology for optimal situational awareness with a comprehensive dashboard; ZeroEyes™ AI gun detection and intelligent situational awareness software; and Cradlepoint networks that connect sites, vehicles, IoT technology and safety personnel. This new combined solution was demonstrated earlier this month in Tomball, Texas by the Harris County Constable Precinct One Office for law enforcement agencies and school districts.

The safety solution’s mobile hardware includes Kyocera’s ultra-rugged 5G smartphones and DuraSlate rugged Wi-Fi tablets. Smartphones are mounted with a custom adapter on MOLLE* vests worn by safety/police officers that show live emergency activities as captured by the Omni-Response Dashboard. The smartphones send an alert when other systems detect a threat on campus or within a building, saving critical time in emergencies.

Kyocera’s DuraForce Ultra 5G and DuraSport 5G , both available on the Verizon 5G network, feature a dedicated Push-to-Talk (PTT) button easily programmed for seamless, instant voice communication using the Walkie Talkie app in Teams. The Walkie Talkie app in Teams is available for free to users of Teams with an active Microsoft 365 subscription. Teams also offers flexible shift scheduling and seamless task management for frontline workers who operate in remote, often harsh environments such as construction, manufacturing, transportation and more.

FirstNet®.

FirstNet is built with AT&T in a public-private partnership with the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority) – an independent agency within the federal government. It’s designed with and for public safety. With this much-needed technology upgrade, first responders can connect to the critical information they need every day and in every emergency.

DuraXE Epic, now FirstNet Ready™, supports access to the dedicated FirstNet network core, FirstNet First Priority® – which includes always-on priority and preemption for first responders – and the Band 14 spectrum.

DuraXE Epic is designed ultra-rugged and compact with a customizable menu and multiple programmable keys, including SOS*(for use with AT&T Advanced EPTT), PTT*, speaker and call list, and the four-way navigation key that can be set to frequently used apps and functions. It offers the benefit of Device Control, allowing agencies and businesses to disable unwanted phone applications and restrict access to select features on company-owned phones. The device also features a Car Kit Power On/Off Mode to turn the device on and off with ignition when installed in a vehicle cradle and Battery Care and Eco Modes to optimize battery usage and extend the overall life of the battery.

DuraXE Epic makes an ideal replacement for Remote Speaker Mics (RSMs), using the programmable external buttons to easily communicate - including a PTT button for EPTT, External Speaker and Call List keys on top of the device that can be programmed to channel up and down, and an SOS button to call for help – all without opening the device or removing it from its holster. It also features precision positioning technology from Skyhook, providing precise location accuracy while still preserving the battery life of the device. San Diego - January 7, 2013 - Cricket Communications and Kyocera Communications Inc. today announced Cricket's launch of the Kyocera Hydro , a waterproof Android™ 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) smartphone. Priced at $139.99 (MSRP), Hydro is Cricket's first waterproof device designed to meet the everyday needs of real life, providing additional protection and peace of mind for Cricket's contract-free customers. Hydro will be available at Cricket company-owned stores and dealers nationwide and on www.mycricket.com beginning Jan. 25, 2013.

Leveraging Kyocera's global experience in creating more than 20 waterproof mobile devices to date, the Kyocera Hydro carries IPx5- and IPx7-level protection against water. According to a 2012 study by TNS Global Research, more than 82.5 million handsets in the U.S. had been destroyed by liquid.† Whether caught in a rainstorm or dropped in a sink, Hydro is certified as waterproof against sprayed water (e.g., rain) and immersion in water up to one meter deep for up to 30 minutes.

The Kyocera Hydro can be activated on any one of Cricket's three monthly smartphone service-plan options starting at $50 per month. All Cricket plans, including smartphone service plans, feature all-inclusive pricing with no service fees and no overage charges. For customers, that means a predictable monthly bill, regardless of increasing usage, offered at a price point that fits into a value-conscious budget.

With Muve Music from Cricket, customers have millions of songs at their fingertips, will never pay per song and the music service is built in to Cricket's no contract rate plans- so the music is free. Muve Music customers have the added benefit of discovering new music through its monthly artist programs such as Muve First and Muve Headliner, featuring exclusive commentary, music and videos every month from up and coming and top producing artists only available to Muve Music.

Kyocera Hydro features a 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive 480x320 IPS LCD touchscreen display and Swype for rapid text entry. It has a MSM8655 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon® processor, 2GB ROM, 512MB RAM memory and supports microSD™ memory cards up to 32GB. Taking pictures and video is a breeze with Hydro's 3.2 megapixel camera with an LED flash and a 30 frame-per-second camcorder, and fast uploading and transferring is enabled via Wi-Fi (b/g/n), Stereo Bluetooth® (2.1 + EDR) wireless technology support and high-speed USB 2.0. Hydro also includes a 3-axis accelerometer, a digital compass, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor and Kyocera's "Eco Mode" software to monitor and conserve battery power. Despite its water resistance, Hydro is a trim 4.53 x 2.44 x 0.50 in. and weighs only 4.16 ounces.
